Our Impact
Supporting Students Affected by Parental Incarceration
The CT Children with Incarcerated Parents Initiative (CTCIP) scholarship provides financial support to UConn Hartford students impacted by the incarceration of a parent or close family member. Launched in 2014, when the Institute for Municipal and Regional Policy (IMRP) and CTCIP were housed at Central Connecticut State University, the scholarship was designed to help alleviate the financial burden of college tuition.
To date, the CTCIP scholarship has awarded more than 25 scholarships totaling over $75,000 to students impacted by parental incarceration. This support helps reduce financial barriers to higher education, allowing recipients to focus on their academic goals and personal growth while navigating the challenges associated with familial incarceration.
Hear From Our Recipients!
"The CIP Scholarship has helped me work harder towards my studies."
"I hope one day I will be able to pay this forward by helping other students achieve their goal just as you have helped me."
"I am forever grateful for the CIP Scholarship. I love how it sheds light on children who have loved ones that are incarcerated, because at times I feel like they are looked over."
